|
Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction)Gynecomastia has become a widespread condition in the last decade due to higher incidence of obesity among men. While it has become more common, it’s not usually discussed openly. It can also be attributed to problems with recreational drug usage, but most often is attributed to increased fatty deposits due to overeating.
WHAT
IT DOES: Removes excess fatty deposits or breast tissue in
men. WHAT TO EXPECT: There are a number of reasons for gynecomastia, as previously discussed. To eliminate any underlying causes not attributable to obesity alone, Dr. Giunta will order a complete medical checkup. He will evaluate such things as impaired liver function, excessive use of alcohol or marijuana, estrogen containing medications or anabolic steroids. Overweight men are encouraged to reduce their intake of food and exercise prior to surgery. Dr. Giunta will make an incision near the armpit, or in the nipple region to have access to the area. He will then use liposuction to remove the localized fatty deposits. If the condition is much more pronounced, Dr. Giunta may elect to remove fat and tissue surgically. Swelling and bruising are considered normal after the gynecomastia procedure, and generally will disappear completely after four weeks. After the surgery, you’ll be instructed to wear a compression garment and you should not expose the area to sunlight until healing is completed, which can be a period of up to four months.
