So, How Do I Begin The Process Of Making Phalloplasty Surgery Happen?

Right about now, after reading most of the information about phalloplasty on this web site, you may be thinking, “Okay . . . what happens next.” That’s a very good question, and the answer is as easy as one, two, three.

Step One—

Email Dr. Giunta and explain your problem to him. Dr. Giunta reads ALL emails and will review each case separately, giving you his opinion and answering your question(s) in a return email, or a telephone call (please provide a telephone number).

Step Two—

During this telephone consult-offered to you free of charge-he will answer questions and suggest how he might be able to help.  If you are deemed a suitable candidate, he will have a patient advisor schedule a surgical date for you, discuss financing (if needed) and advise you of any blood work or pre-surgical tests that need to be performed. These tests should be sent at least one week prior to surgery.  You will also be given basic instructions about the use of aspirin, vitamins, etc. 

Step Three—

Dr. Giunta's staff will provide you with travel information for your hotel stay.  You will need to stay three days, if you are traveling from out of town.  His staff has made arrangements with a nearby hotel (Hawthorn Suites), to provide you with a discounted hotel rate and they have excellent efficiency suites which provide comfortable living quarters.  Shuttle service is also provided, free of charge, to Dr. Giunta's office and to and from the airport.  You should arrive one day prior to your scheduled surgery, so that Dr. Giunta may conduct a pre surgical evaluation and a final course of treatment will be decided upon.  You will then be seen by the anesthetist and the office staff will review paperwork that needs to be completed prior to surgery.  You will be given a time to come into the office for surgery the next day and the hotel shuttle will transport you back to the hotel.
 
The next day, your surgery day, you will report to his office at the time given you.
Your chart will be reviewed by the operating nurse and the anesthetist and you will be given operating room clothing. 
 
After surgery you will go to the recovery room where a nurse will monitor you and provide food and drink.  After and about an hour you will be taken to the dressing room to change back into your clothes.  The hotel shuttle will then transport you back to your hotel suite where you will rest for the remainder of the day and evening. 
 
The final day of your three day stay, you will return to the office for your post op surgical evaluation.  Dr. Giunta will change dressings, as needed, and will give you final instructions for your continued care.  You may leave and return home after this visit.
